City of Roses
– Harmonic Acoustic Trio

With heart-felt vocals and knock-your-socks-off harmonies, City of Roses has become one of New England’s premier acoustic acts. Their virtuoso musicianship defies any one category. Stephen Gilligan, Linda Picceri, and Michelle Tanguay, talented singer/songwriters and veterans of the Boston music scene, have created a sound that flows smoothly from folk to rock, country to blues, reminiscent of Crosby, Stills & Nash, Emmylou Harris, and Manhattan Transfer. City of Roses delivers the kind of crowd-pleasing performance that stays with you long after you leave the show.

Jaded Mandolin
– High-Energy Bluegrass

It’s an unlikely situation: a bunch of teenagers playing traditional American folk music and bluegrassy originals with tremendous energy, rich vocal harmonies, raging fiddle, and hot mandolin. But what gives Jaded Mandolin its character is that it’s old music played in a new way. The tight and melodic arrangements are not typical of most traditional-sounding groups. But roots are important, and Jaded Mandolin stays true to its roots. In the words of local bluegrass giant Sean Staples, “Jaded Mandolin brings an infectious youthful energy and enthusiasm to their music, though there is an obvious respect for the history of the songs. Seeing them, I feel like the future of the tradition is in good hands.”

Susan Levine
– Distinctive, Poetic Original Songs

Susan Levine is a favorite on the Boston acoustic music scene. Her songs, inspired by her extensive travels, are laced with evocative images and suffused with poetic vision. She delivers her songs with bottomless sincerity and playfulness. Her powerful, warm voice has been likened in its grace, range, and flexibility to Emmylou Harris and Nanci Griffith. The poetry and heart in her lyrics and the emotional investment in her performances cause her loyal audiences to come back for more.
